As soon as we hear the word ‘island’, a gorgeous image is created in our minds. But not all the islands on this earth are mind-blowing paradises as we think.
There are many beautiful and breathtaking islands in this world. But in this article, we aren’t talking about those beautiful islands. We are talking about some of the most dangerous and off-limits islands in the world. In fact, these islands are very mysterious and dangerous.
So let’s find out why these islands are so dangerous and why we are forbidden to go to these islands.
01. North Sentinel Island
North Sentinel Island is a small island of the Andaman Islands located in the Bay of Bengal. A tribal group called Sentinels lives on this Sentinel Island. They want to avoid having contact with the outside world, and they don’t even want an outsider to go near their island. These sentinels work hard to protect their privacy. They will go to extreme lengths to keep outsiders off their island. They are ready to attack any outsiders with weapons of their making and bows and arrows.
It is reported that they also attacked the helicopters that went to assess the damage caused by the 2004 tsunami.
From these things, it is clear to us that they protect their land in a very fierce way. So if anyone is eager to go here, remember that they won’t come back alive.
02. Snake Island
It is correct to say that this is a separate island for snakes. According to some estimates, it is accurate to say that there is one snake for every square meter of the island. This island is actually very vicious, as it is not just the usual garden variety snakes that live on this island. One of the most venomous snakes in the world, the golden lame shed viper, even lives on this island. If you show how severe this snake’s venom is, a person can die from its venom within one hour.
Rumor has it that once upon a time, an unfortunate fisherman went to this snake island to find bananas. It has also been reported that his body was found in a pool of blood on the boat a few days later. It is believed that he was killed by snakes. Furthermore, from 1909 to 1920, several people had worked to maintain the lighthouse on this island. But none of them have been able to live permanently on that island. According to sources, the life of the last worker who went to work at the lighthouse was also victimized by a snake. That is why no one has come back to work there.
03. Povglia Island, Italy
This island is located less than half a mile from Venice, Italy. This island has a very dark and twisted history. The locals say that the number of people who set foot on this island is very low. The main reason for this is the ghosts mentioned in legends. Some of these legends have been proven true.
The Venetian government used this island as a fortress in the past. But between 1793 and 1841, the island was used as a quarantine center for bubonic plague and Black Death victims. Reports also state that there were about 160,000 infected people on this island at that time. Later in 1922, the island was used to house the mentally ill. During that time, it is said that one of the doctors there brutally tortured and killed several of his patients. It is said in legends that the patients who died in this way haunted the doctor until he climbed a bell tower and committed suicide. Even today, the locals say that anyone who visits the island is tormented by those evil spirits. Due to such dangerous reasons, today this island of Povglia is off limits to the public.
04. Bear Island
Although it is called bear island, this island is not an island full of bears. Although it is called an island, it is similar to a water rock in the middle of the ocean. This island is located between the Norwegian mainland and the island of Spit Bergen. Due to the perpetual fog that surrounds the rocky coastline, it’s fair to say this is a dangerous destination. But this island has become dangerous because of the destruction of a nuclear submarine about one hundred nautical miles from the island in the south-west direction, and harmful radioactive materials seeping into the water. Due to these harmful radioactive materials, the soil of the island has been severely damaged. According to experts, it is clear that living on this island is not suitable.
05. Miyaki Jima Island
Miyaki Jima is one of the Itsu Izu Islands located south of Tokyo. The island consists of a chain of volcanoes that have erupted six times over the past century. However, it is not only the volcanoes that make this island dangerous. Scientists say that this island is a very dangerous island because of the highest concentration of toxins added to the gas present on this island.
In 2000, the island’s main volcano, Oyama, erupted, adding to the island’s air with a high concentration of toxins. People were evacuated because of the high concentration of toxic gases in the air. Information has also been revealed that even flights to that area had been stopped for eight years because the amount of sulfur in the sky above the island was very high. In 2005, the islanders were allowed to return to their island after the threat had somewhat subsided. They were ordered to wear a gas masks there. And if the amount of toxic gas present there increases, an alarm will sound, and it was later stipulated that only in those cases, the mask should be worn.
However, risking your life and living on these islands is really very dangerous. So think twice before going. These islands are more dangerous than we think, than we see.
